Obsessed movie posterscene from ObsessedBeyonce Knowles in Obsessed

Don’t Mess With My Man!

What would happen if a happily married successful business man Derek, Idris Elba becomes the fatal attraction of a temp co-worker Lisa, Ali Larter ? And... what would happen if that overly obsessed temp goes to the home of the successful business man and wants to duke it out with the beautiful wife Sharon, Beyoncé Knowles? You’ll certainly find out the answers to these questions in the film as the climax is indeed an unforgettable ‘girl fight’ between the star Beyoncé and Lisa the temp girl. When Beyoncé says, “Derek, I’ll have to call you back,” as she about to deal with the creepy temp intruder, the audience is in for an unforgettable scene. The two girls duke it out in a choreographed match that has moves as extreme as the ones on stage in Beyoncé’s  concert videos.

The film is reminiscent of the 80’s hit “Fatal Attraction” in which Michael Douglas is stalked by Glen Close and that poor little family pet bunny is put atop the stove for evening stew. The main difference is the script in “Fatal Attraction” is more of a thriller with surprises and twists. “Obsessed” is very predictable with a dull script. Due to the flat lines, audiences actually start laughing and cheering in this supposedly serious film.

Beyoncé fans are in for a treat as she plays a loving wife and mother that ultimately stands up for her man and refuses to take a back seat to anyone ‘messing’ with her family. She’s not in the film very much at the beginning but comes on strong at the end. Most of her early scenes are with her adorable baby boy.

The trap set by Lisa is cunning and calculated. Derek doesn’t even have time to react before he begins to realize what this psycho-girl is capable of. She sends pictures of herself in emails, jumps in his car in the parking lot, drugs him at a conference. The list goes on and on. When he thinks that she’s finally out of his life, she pops back in and his world begins to fall apart as his marriage is threatened. Sharon starts to question his faithfulness as too many incidences are not making sense and his neatly packaged family life is in danger.

The fight between Lisa and Beyoncé is the reason you buy the ticket or rent the video, either way the scene is entertaining. It’s ‘all out’ extreme craziness that goes on and ridiculously on. Yes, it’s an unrealistic girl fight scene but who cares it’s all in fun and we know it’s just a silly movie by this point.

Beyoncé has star quality and on-screen presence. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her in this film. I also give her a lot of credit for pursuing acting as she has established herself as an exceptional musical artist and has all the fame she could ever want. Acting, I would imagine presents a ‘real’challenge for her and I admire her for giving her fans another venue to follow. Hopefully the next film project will have a better script.
